Demarest Lawyers enhances its Technology Infrastructure with Level 3 Services

São Paulo, Brazil, August 03, 2017 -- Demarest Lawyers understands a high-end technology infrastructure can add value to its customers.  Therefore, it decided to use Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) internet services, voice and collaboration solutions, and to count on the company’s extensive Data Center infrastructure to provide managed services and Colocation.

Customer Profile:

Founded in 1948 in São Paulo with 700 employees, Demarest Lawyers has offices in Brazil and in the United States, serving more than 2,000 customers. The office is currently one of the most prominent in Brazil, and among the largest in Latin America.

Challenge:

To answer the needs of a growing and dispersed workforce, distributed throughout several offices, and its continuous need for an increased level of productivity and competitiveness, Demarest needed a technology partner that could provide it with the adequate collaboration tools that could be integrated to its existing ecosystem. In addition to this demand, Demarest needed to renew its set of videoconference rooms, and move its office servers’ infrastructure to an IT infrastructure environment, with security and high availability. However, Demarest did not possess the tools or physical space and was searching for a scalable “as a service” solution to materialize this new scenario idealized by the IT team. 

Solution:

Since 2014, Demarest has been counting on Level 3 to provide it with internet services and Level 3 was the partner selected to provide it with its new collaboration and data center solutions. Together, both Level 3 and Demarest teams worked on designing the entire scope of this project.

To meet the needs of unified communications, one of the verticals of the collaboration solution, the solution selected was Managed Voice (MV) - Skype for Business, as a Unified Communications platform in Level 3’s data center. Within this context, Level 3 conceived the entire project for servers, connectivity, voice, PSTN (connection with the public telephony network), local survivability, and pricing, in addition to the integration with the company’s legacy systems and environments.

The Skype for Business solution provided was customized by Level 3, integrating the pricing system with the customer’s ERP SAP 4/HANA. Through this customization, each customer or topic possesses a code and every time an employee needs to call a customer, he uses this code, therefore associating the cost of this call to each customer/project. This integration allows for the automation of the process, so that modifications in the ERP are reflected dynamically in the service charges, and vice-versa.

This new environment made it possible for the 700 employees, distributed among its five offices or working remotely, to communicate and collaborate more efficiently and productively through voice, chat, content sharing, etc.

For demands in the videoconference rooms, the solution elected was Level 3 Enhanced Video Collaboration (EVC). EVC is Level 3’s video collaboration solution which allowed Demarest to renew all videoconference rooms in its offices, as well as its auditorium, with an infrastructure of cameras, microphones and end-points to carry out meetings and events through telepresence.

In support of Demarest’s commitment to social responsibility, in July of 2016, Level 3 worked with the organization to provide two internet links located in Level 3’s Data Center to a housing project. Plus, Level 3 provides connectivity between the customer’s sites and the Data Center, using a dedicated optic fiber network and DWDM technology. This service, as well as all other services implemented, was finalized in 20 days, with no impact on the routine of the company’s clients.
